1. Current Plans  - LargeScale

WARNING:
Finding the LGB parts to build these LGB systems can be difficult,
as a result LGB ceasing production in mid 2007.

Single-Track Model 106 | Drawings |
(referred to as Model 146b on drawings)

2-Track Model 206 | Drawings | Photos | YouTube Video #4 |
(QuickTime Video #51 video shows essentially identical Model 205, aka Model 165)

4-Track Model 402 | Drawings | Photos | YouTube Video #5 |
(video shows essentially identical Model 401, aka Model 1654)

2. Plans & Sketches  - S Gauge

Note: Except for the DCC project 107, these are experiments, none are complete enough to use for construction

Project 107 | Sketchs & Photos |
Point-to-point operation, using DCC Computer Control Using QuickBasic

Project 108 | Wiring Sketch | YouTube Video #8 |
Single-track test block using RR Concepts 'Switching Interface Module', used for YouTube video

Project 207 | Wiring Sketch | Video | YouTube Video #SSG1 |

2-Track system set up by Dennis Oberholtzer & Mark Anderman for YouTube video. Runs 3 trains using 3 blocks, and AF pressure-sensitive track trips.

Project 208 | Drawings |

Preliminary Drawings for 2-Track Automatic Switching Block using AF switches. Will run 3 trains using 2 blocks, and reed switches for activation.

== 3A. Single-Track Units ==

Model 101

Years -- 1988 to 1992

Drawing References -- Booklet P8811

Recommended For Use -- No. Reason: Lack of adjustable rheostat is not desirable.

Other Comments -- First design made into a formal drawing.

Model 102 (aka Model 944)

Years -- 1992 to 1994

Drawing References -- Drawing Set D8811-044

Improvements Over Previous Model -- Has 2 rheostats; 1 for control in slowdown block, 1 for startup block

Recommended For Use -- Yes.

Model 103 (aka Model AP1)

Years -- 1992 to 1994

Drawing References -- Drawing Set D8811-081

Differences -- Used the APS electric eye control, in place of LGB parts.

Recommended For Use -- APS eye is not longer available.

Model 104 (aka Model 945)

Years -- 1994 to 1995

Drawing References -- Drawing Set D8811-0--

Improvements Over Previous Model -- Control part is a separate unit, built on a laminated template, for built-in wiring documentation. The rear isolating track (10153) detaches, to expand the length of the stop block.

Recommended For Use -- Yes.

Model 105 (aka Model 146)

Years -- 1996

Drawing References -- Drawing Set D8811-146

Improvements Over Previous Model -- Design has only 1 rheostat, for simpler design

Recommended For Use -- Yes

Model 106 (aka Model 146b) - Current Model

Years -- 1996 to present

Drawing References -- Drawing Set D8811-146

Improvements Over Previous Model -- Design has only 1 rheostat, for simpler design

Recommended For Use -- Yes

== 3B. Two-Track Units ==

Model 201 (aka Model 122)

Years -- 1988 to 1992

Drawing References -- Booklet P9105

Recommended For Use -- No. Reason: Lack of adjustable rheostat is not desirable.

Other Comments -- This was a simple automatic passing siding. It was the first design made into a formal drawing.

Model 202 (aka Model 163)

Years -- 1992 to 1993

Drawing References -- Drawing Set D8811-163

Improvements Over Previous Model -- Added rheostat and blocking. First automatic switching block design.

Recommended For Use -- No. Reason: Parts are "scattered" all over track board. No template to document wiring.

Model 203 (aka Model 164)

Years -- 1993 to 1993

Drawing References -- Drawing Set D8811-164

Improvements Over Previous Model -- Control part is a separate unit, built on a laminated template, for built-in wiring documentation

Recommended For Use -- No. Reason: The control unit is too large.

Model 204 (aka Model 164b)

Years -- 1993 to 1994

Drawing References -- Drawing Set D8811-164 . . . (1 GIF template drawing in Plans section)

Improvements Over Previous Model -- Control part was shrunk down to a more manageable size.

Recommended For Use -- No. Reason: The control unit does not have outputs to drive the 4 signal lights.

Model 205 (aka Model 165)

Years -- 1994 to 2006

Drawing References -- Drawing Set D8811-165 . . . (14 GIF & PDF drawings in Plans section)

Model 205 Photos

Improvements Over Previous Model -- Control part was shrunk down further in size. Added 4 outputs to control 4 target lights.

Recommended For Use -- Yes

Other Comments -- Adding a 2nd rheostat to the design, would probably be helpful for operation with DCC. (Older models had 2 rheostats.)

Model 206 - Current Model

Years -- 2007 to present

Drawing References -- Drawing Set D8811-206

Improvements Over Previous Model -- It is very similar to the previous Model 205 (aka Model 165) design, except for the following differences:

  • A 2nd rheostat was added, so there is now one rheostat for controlling voltage (speed) in the slowdown block, and a 2nd rheostat for controlling voltage in the startup block. This was done with the idea, that if operating DCC, the startup rheostat could be adjusted for full voltage, and the decoders could be adjusted for smooth acceleration.

  • The Control Unit is slightly narrower (5" vs 6-1/4" for Model 205). When used with a 12" wide track unit, the overall width of the whole assembly is about 12-1/2", as compared with a 17" width for the previous model 205 track unit.

Recommended For Use -- Yes

Other Comments --

== 3C. Four-Track Units ==

Model 401 (aka Model 1654)

Years -- 1996 to 2006

Drawing References -- Drawing Set D8811-165 . . . (23 GIF & PDF drawings in Plans section)

Recommended For Use -- Yes

Other Comments -- This was done by expanding the 2-track Model 165 to 4 tracks, by addition of a "helper control unit".

Model 402 - Current Model

Years -- 2006 to present

Drawing References -- Drawing Set D8811-402

Improvements Over Previous Model -- Control Unit is all on one base, instead of two bases.

Recommended For Use -- Yes

Other Comments -- Uses same track drawings as previous model 1654. Essentially the same, except for new 1-piece template for control unit.
